Bryans pass McEnroe for most weeks at No. 1

Bob and Mike Bryan have broken John McEnroe’s record for the most weeks atop the individual doubles rankings. The top-ranked twins are tied with each other at 271 weeks. "To achieve this record and surpass McEnroe, who we’ve always looked up to, is awesome," Mike Bryan told ATPTour.com. "This ranks up with our record of most team titles. It shows we were consistent throughout our whole career and we didn’t want to relinquish the top spot."

Bob added: "It is number two, right below getting married, and will soon be number three, after my wife gives birth to our daughter in January."

The ATP noted that at 271 weeks, the Bryans are just 15 weeks behind Pete Sampras at 286 weeks as No. 1, in singles, and just 14 behind Roger Federer. The Bryans have won 75 titles overall, compared to 70 for Federer and 64 for Sampras.

"Sampras and Federer have accomplished unbelievable things," Bob said. "What they’ve done is remarkable. It’s an honor to be even asked this question or be associated with these legends. Singles and doubles are totally different, but it’s nice to be at the top of doubles. That’s what we do and it’s what we love."
