Ford captures super-G title at US championships (AP)

WINTER PARK, Colo. (AP)—Tommy Ford has won a second consecutive race at U.S. championships, mastering the mushy snow to capture the super-G title.

Ford and Julia Mancuso are proving quite adept at skiing in warm springtime conditions. Mancuso won the women’s super-G race earlier Saturday, her second national title in as many days.

Leading off the men’s competition, Ford flew down the twisty course in 1 minute, 10.10 seconds, a time that held up as Tommy Biesemeyer finished .10 seconds behind. Ryan Cochran-Siegle was third on an afternoon when temperatures soared into the 50s.

Ford, of Bend, Ore., has captured the last five U.S. events he’s entered. He won the giant slalom title Thursday, along with the GS, slalom and combined at nationals last spring.
