Golf – Dyson hoping for Ryder Cup glory

Simon Dyson made an early claim for Europe 2012 Ryder Cup team selection with victory at the Dutch Open.

The victory marked Dyson’s second win on the European Tour this season and he is gunning for a third at the Vivendi Seve Trophy in France this week, where GB and Ireland are 1/1 for a win with bet365.
The Yorkshireman recorded four birdies in the final seven holes at Hilversum to beat David Lynn, the champion seven years ago, by one shot. Rory McIlroy finished in third.
The 33-year-old joins a list of three-time Dutch Open winners that includes Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer, and now lies just behind Thomas Bjorn in the standings for next year’s Ryder Cup.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be on the same trophy as names like those two (Ballesteros and Langer).”
The victory took Dyson up to a career-high 28th in the world rankings and he has now finished in the top 20 of his last five European tournaments.
