Sportsmail Reporter Ibrox fell silent on Sunday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the disaster which claimed the lives of 66 people. After an Old Firm game at Ibrox in January 1971, 66 people died in a crush leaving stairway 13 . The period of silence was observed impeccably before the match, with the Ibrox scoreboard showing a message: 'Always Remembered'. Before the game, supporters of both clubs left flowers and scarves in tribute, as Rangers unveiled a new memorial. Speaking earlier in the week, Greig said: 'The terrible events of January 2, 1971 will never be forgotten. 'It was a horrific day for everyone who lost loved ones at the game and they will always be in our thoughts.' McNeill said: 'The Ibrox disaster is something which I will personally never forget and an event which will forever be ingrained in the memory of Scottish football. 'This was a terrible tragedy and one which we rightly should remember as we pay our sincere respects to the victims and their families.'
