British number one Andy Murray is keen to improve his performances on clay ahead of this week's Monte Carlo Masters.

The Scot has been dumped out of the last three tournaments after just one match and is without a win since January 28.

The world number four will take on Radek Stepanek on Wednesday and Murray is desperate to regain his top form ahead of both the French Open and Wimbledon.

Murray was beaten in the second round in Monte Carlo by Philipp Kohlschreiber last year and the 23-year-old is desperate to improve his performances on clay and admits he has a tendency to lose his head on the slower clay courts.

He told ESPN: "I got cuffed [against Kohlschreiber], and it wasn't nice.

"I didn't even notice the crowd, I was just gutted with the way I played. I need to accept I might go behind in matches on clay and I have to stay calm in that situation. I need to be ready for long games and tough sets."
