Swiss-Moldovan Alpine racer Imboden retires (AP)

GENEVA (AP)—Swiss-Moldovan skier Urs Imboden has retired from Alpine racing after a career in which his change in national affiliation prompted a rules change.

Imboden skied for Switzerland at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, finishing fifth in the slalom.

He changed nationalities in 2006 after failing to keep his place on the Swiss team, skiing for Moldova at three world championships from 2007-11. He was never beaten by a Swiss racer, placing 11th, 9th and 14th.

The International Ski Federation now requires athletes to live in a country for at least two years before qualifying for a new race license.

The 36-year-old Imboden plans to coach young skiers at the Swiss resort of Davos.
