Venus leaves sidelines to play local exhibition

Venus Williams will take part in an exhibition against Brenda Schultz-McCarthy on December 27 near her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, her first tennis appearance of any kind since the U.S. Open. Williams has been sidelined with a knee problem and her status for the Australian Open is unknown.

The exhibition match is billed as a battle between the two biggest servers in women's tennis, with Schultz-McCarthy having hit a high of 130 mph in a 2006 qualifying match in Cincinnati and Williams holding the record for a main draw match with 129 mph at the French Open the following year.
